01 MarThis is a True Story

My wife and two children took one of the best cruises to Hawaii about five years ago aboard the rhapsody of the seas. By this time, our son was eight and our daughter ten and we wanted to take a memorable family vacation.

One day, my son and I were walking down the beach, collecting shells. We saw a lady get up from her beach towel unsteadily. Then her knees buckled and she fell down. Concerned, we went over to help. She said she was feeling a bit faint from too much sun. I asked if I could help her over into the shade and she nodded. I put an arm around her, expecting her to lean on me for support as we walked. Instead, she put an arm around my neck and went limp, so that I ended up carrying her into the shade. It was awkward, to say the least. I set her down and helped her get a bottle of water from her bag. She said she felt much better and thanked me for my help.

When my son and I returned to my wife and daughter, my wife asked what we had done. My son replied, “Daddy picked up a strange lady on the beach!”
